The Dandenong Hospital was redeveloped in two stages. Stage 1 was completed in 2001 and Stage 2 in 2005.
The project consisted of the demolition of the South West block, the construction of new wards and offices for the hospital and upgrade of existing wards
Stage 1
The construction of a new ward at Dandenong Hospital included a sub–acute ward, hydrotherapy pool area and two acute wards.
A service relocation package of works was undertaken prior to the construction of the new Ward Block. Other smaller projects included the refurbishment of existing wards for Paediatrics and Ambulatory Care, a new Engineering Workshop, a new Electrical Switchroom and Waste Management area and new major electrical infrastructure upgrade works to the main hospital.
Stage 2
The early works package encompassed the construction of Medical Records, IT and various offices as well as redevelopment of Emergency Department and Diagnostic Imaging.
The major works undertaken were:
- Demolition of the existing South-West block including relocation of services within the construction zone.
- Construction of a new 4 level South-West block, refurbishment of South-East Block and West Block lobbies.
The new hospital block accommodates the following units: ICU, CCU, Operating Theatres and Allied Health.
Davis Langdon provided both Project Management and Quantity Surveying services to the project from the master planning through to construction and post construction services.
The construction was carried out within the existing hospital with minimum disruption to the hospital day-to-day operation. The new facilities have improved healthcare services in this busy public hospital.
